A series of severe storms is taking aim at the central United States this week, with the greatest risk for strong tornadoes unfolding April 14.
However, the cold front will quickly overtake storms, causing them all to merge into a windy squall line. Tornado and hail risk will decrease, though a few spin-up tornadoes are still possible. Instead, widespread 60 to 75 mph wind gusts will accompany the squall.
The Chicago area will face multiple chances of severe weather this week, with all manner of hazards in play including ‘very large hail’ and ‘strong tornadoes.’
